What and Who is 'LUX'?
I’m an Utrecht-based Dutchman with a passion for cathedrals and Gothic architecture in general. Cathedrals are the ‘AI of the Middle Ages’: masterpieces where creativity and high-tech construction techniques of the time converged. Using the cutting-edge innovations of their era, people achieved the unimaginable, much like AI pushes the boundaries of possibility today.
The goal of LUX is to contribute to the saving of Gothic church heritage. I do so by enlightening you about the beauty of churches, in order to inspire you to visit them. Read more about our drive in the Mission and Vision statement below.
LUX is a non-commercial website. The content (copy and photos) is created in my own time, and the costs (for web hosting, among other things) are covered personally. To help offset these costs, on some pages, we provide links to third parties, such as Booking.com. For every booking made through these links, we receive a small commission. This doesn’t cost you anything extra.

Why 'LUX' (and what does it mean)?
‘Lux’ means ‘light’ in Latin. In Gothic architecture, it refers to the use of light as a central design element. The desire for light in the cathedral was one of the main motivations behind the development of the Gothic style.
LUX is also a tribute to my son Lucas. He passed away at a young age due to a severe muscle disease. Although he could move very little, he moved others with the light in his eyes.

LUX helps people to realize their dream to visit their favorite cathedral. In the near future, it might be even possible to donate directly to projects in Europe.
